On the Road Again: Your Guide to
Travel-Ready Finances

Before you set off on your next adventure, make sure your finances are ready to go the distance! Here are six tips to keep your money safe while you’re on the go, whether you’re headed to the next town over or across the world.

    1. Set up travel notifications to make sure your international transactions go through. Many financial institutions, Rogue included, block “unusual” transactions to protect their members from fraud. Make sure your payments go through by giving us a heads-up about where you’ll plan to be, especially if you’re traveling internationally.

To set up a travel note in Online or Mobile Banking, select “Card Controls” (under “More” in Mobile Banking) and then choose “Manage Travel Plans.” Then select “Add Travel Plan,” enter the countries you’re visiting, when you’re going and submit the form. You can also give us a call at 800.856.7328 or stop by your local branch to set up a travel note. We just ask you notify us two or more business days in advance.

    2. Keep an eye out for texts from us. If you’re traveling out-of-state state, we may text you to verify your card activity. If you’re traveling internationally, ask your cell provider about short-term international service plans or purchase a SIM card while you’re out of the country to ensure that you’ll receive texts/calls from us about unusual or suspicious account activity.

    3. Use a digital wallet when you can. Card skimmers are sometimes found at gas stations or other retailers, and they can be hard to spot. They’re attached to card readers, and they steal information from the magnetic strip on your card when you swipe or insert it. Adding your card to a digital wallet provides an alternative: You’ll pay from your phone, avoiding the card reader, and your card information is protected through encryption. Learn more about getting started with digital wallets in our blog.

    4. Bring multiple forms of payment when you travel. If you’re heading out of state, consider picking up some cash at a nearby Express Teller Machine or ATM. You can access over 30,000 co-op ATMs with your Rogue debit card. If you’re traveling internationally, you can avoid costly airport currency exchange fees by ordering foreign currency through your local branch.

    5. Once you’re out on your adventure, watch out for pickpockets, especially in crowded or touristy areas. Avoid backpacks or keeping your wallet in your back pocket. Instead, opt for bags that lock and keep your valuables both close to your chest and in your line of sight. Make copies of important documents like passports or other forms of ID and store them online, just in case.

    6. Expecting a monthly phone bill or mortgage payment? Skip the stress of paying bills on vacation and use Bill Pay instead. You can set up automatic payments to people, billers or other financial institutions anytime with Online Banking. To get started, log in and select “Bill Pay.”

Whenever your adventures take you, we’ll be here every step of the way. If you have questions about how to access your account while you’re out on the road, give us a call at 800.856.7328, chat with us online or stop by your local branch before your trip. We’ll see you when you’re back!
